Which Plasterboard Do I Need?

Types and Uses Explained

The right plasterboard depends on where it will be fitted and what the wall or ceiling needs to achieve. Standard boards suit many general internal applications, while other types are designed for additional moisture resistance, fire protection, sound insulation or thermal insulation.

Before ordering, check your project specification and the manufacturer’s guidance for the complete wall or ceiling system.

Standard Plasterboard

Standard plasterboard is commonly used to line internal walls and ceilings in dry areas.

Check the required thickness, board dimensions and edge type before ordering.

Moisture-Resistant Plasterboard

Moisture-resistant boards are designed for applications where improved moisture resistance is needed.

They should not be treated as a waterproof finish. For wet areas, check the specified backing board, waterproofing and finishing system.

Fireline Plasterboard

Fire-performance boards are used within specified wall and ceiling systems.

The fire rating depends on the complete construction, including the framing, board layers, fixings and joints. Board colour or thickness alone does not confirm a fire rating.

Soundshield Plasterboard

Acoustic plasterboard can help reduce sound transmission as part of a suitable system.

The result also depends on the framing, insulation, sealing and installation.

Thermal Laminate Plasterboard

Thermal laminate boards combine plasterboard with insulation.

The appropriate insulation type and thickness depend on the project’s thermal requirements, available space and wall construction.
